City of Courtenay 2022 Election Information

Voting Day - Saturday, October 15, 2022


General Voting day is on Saturday, October 15, 2022 (8:00 am to 8:00 pm)

Voting Locations

What to Bring: If you are already on the Provincial Voter’s List, you do not need to bring anything. If you are not on the Voter’s List, or aren’t sure, you need to bring two pieces of ID (at least one with a signature) that show your identity and place of residence.


Mail Ballot Voting 

Mail ballot voting will be available for certain City of Courtenay electors. The only electors who may vote by mail ballot are the following: 
• Persons who have a physical disability, illness or injury that affects their ability to vote at another voting opportunity; and 
• Persons who expect to be absent from the municipality on general voting day and at the times of all advance voting opportunities. 

Application forms for mail ballot voting are available at Courtenay City Hall, 830 Cliffe Avenue, Courtenay, B.C., Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., excluding statutory holidays. 

Persons applying to vote by mail should confirm their eligibility with the Chief Elections Officer. 


Eligibility to Vote

A resident elector must:
    • be 18 years of age or older on general voting day;
    • be a Canadian citizen;
    •  have been a resident of British Columbia for at least six months before registering to vote;
    • have been a resident of the jurisdiction in which they intend to vote for at least 30 days before registering to vote; and,
    • not be disqualified under the Local Government Act or any other enactment from voting in a local election, or be otherwise disqualified by law.

A non-resident property elector must: 
    • be 18 years of age or older on general voting day;
    • be a Canadian citizen;
    • have been a resident of British Columbia for at least six months before registering to vote;
    • have owned property in the jurisdiction in which they intend to vote for at least 30 days before registering to vote; and,
    • not be disqualified under the Local Government Act or any other enactment from voting in a local election, or be otherwise disqualified by law.


Advance Voter Registration

The City of Courtenay uses the Provincial Voters List as the list of Resident Electors. If you are registered as an elector, you should be on this list. To confirm that you are on the Provincial Voters List in the City of Courtenay, please contact Elections BC by phone at 1.800.661.8683. If you are not on the voter’s list, you may register online through Elections BC.

If you were not on the Provincial Voters List before it was provided to the City, your name will not be on the City's voters list.
